Eyeing up a Bungy Jumping Record

Auckland Eye was really pleased to welcome Mike Heard to our clinic on Friday 26 May 2017.

Earlier in the week Mr Heard smashed the world record for the most bungy jumps in 24 hours by jumping off the Auckland Harbour Bridge 430 times.

The reasoning behind his enormous achievement was to raise  funds and awareness for the Mental Health Foundation.

Auckland Eye had heard about his incredible efforts and wanted to support his cause by offering a free eye examination. There is some suggestion that there is the potential for eye damage resulting from bungy jumping (or any activity that involves rapid acceleration) due to the high increase in pressure that occurs in the eyes, and we wanted to ensure that all was well with Mr Heard following his selfless act.

Mr Heard was incredibly grateful for the opportunity and we are pleased to report following a consultation with Dr Philip Polkinghorne and a thorough eye examination his eye health has presented as perfectly normal.

Donations are still being accepted for Mike Heard's Mental Health Foundation fundraiser. Go to mentalhealth.org.nz/bungy or text BUNGY to 2446 to make an automatic $3 donation.
