We’re taking part in Round the Bays Auckland 2026 to help raise essential funds for the important work of Glaucoma New Zealand.
Auckland Eye is pleased to announce that, from 02 February 2026, our team of surgical retina ophthalmologists will perform advanced Vitreoretinal (VR) surgery at our Takapuna surgical facility.
This expansion marks a significant milestone in our mission to deliver comprehensive ophthalmic care across the region, ensuring that patients can access specialised treatment closer to home.
Vitreoretinal surgery refers to microsurgical procedures on the retina at the bank of the eye and the clear gel (vitreous) that helps maintain the eye’s shape.
The retina is essential for clear, central vision, supporting everyday activities such as reading, driving, recognising faces and enjoying life’s moments.
Using specialised microsurgical instruments and advanced high-resolution viewing technology, vitreoretinal surgeons can treat complex conditions at the back of the eye, that cannot be addressed with standard cataract or anterior segment surgery. These delicate surgeries treat conditions that affect vision and can be sight-threatening if left untreated.
If you’ve been diagnosed with a vitreoretinal condition, you can now have your surgery performed in Takapuna by our experienced specialists. This development brings:
Auckland Eye is New Zealand’s leading independent eye care provider, offering a full spectrum of ophthalmic services, from comprehensive paediatric services, medical retina care to laser vision correction and complex surgical procedures. Red eyes are common and often harmless, but sometimes signal serious eye conditions—knowing when to seek care can help protect your vision.

Many people notice their eyes feel drier, more irritated, or more tired over the holiday period and it’s no coincidence.
