Auckland Eye is thrilled to welcome Dr Aaron Wong to the team. Dr Wong specialises in cataract and glaucoma treatments, with extensive experience across New Zealand and Australia and a passion for delivering exceptional, patient-focused care.

Bringing world-class expertise home to New Zealand

After growing up in Auckland, Dr Wong embarked on his medical journey at the University of Otago, followed by residencies in Auckland, Hamilton and Palmerston North. He then took his skills abroad, refining his cataract surgery skills at Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital and further honing his expertise in glaucoma care at Sydney Eye Hospital.

During his time in Sydney, Dr Wong gained hands-on experience in the latest glaucoma treatments, including minimally invasive techniques like iStent, Hydrus, iTrack and Preserflo. Now, he’s back in Auckland, ready to bring his international experience to the community he calls home.

“I’m really excited to be back in Auckland and to reconnect with the incredible team here,” Dr Wong shares. “It’s an absolute privilege to help people on their journey to better eye health.”

Holistic patient care

At the heart of Dr Wong’s practice is a commitment to personalised, patient-centred care. He believes in building long-term relationships with his patients, ensuring that each person receives the most up-to-date treatment that best suits their individual needs. Glaucoma treatment, in particular, is where this approach proves most valuable.

“Glaucoma can be a scary disease, slowly stealing vision without warning. My goal is to make sure patients fully understand the condition, so they feel empowered to make the best decisions for their eye health.”

A teacher and researcher at heart

Beyond his work with patients, Dr Wong teaches the next generation of eye specialists and advances the field through research. He’s a tutor for ophthalmology registrars in Auckland and contributes to clinical research, with his work featured in numerous scientific journals.
