Glaucoma is a progressive disease that causes irreversible damage to the optic nerve, the vital connection between the eye and the brain. When nerve fibres slowly die off and cannot regenerate, vision can be permanently damaged.

In its most common form, glaucoma has no early symptoms. Many people don’t realise anything is wrong until significant vision loss has already occurred. That’s why regular eye health checks from the age of 40 are so important in minimising sight loss.

How Glaucoma NZ Helps

Glaucoma NZ is a national patient organisation established to support people living with glaucoma. Their work focuses on transforming fear into understanding and turning isolation into a community, so that no New Zealander has to face glaucoma alone.

They provide practical, real-world support for patients and their families, helping people to understand their diagnosis better, manage treatment, and cope with the day-to-day challenges that can come with vision loss.

Importantly, Glaucoma NZ is a non-government-funded organisation. Their work is made possible entirely through community donations, sponsorships, grants, and professional education programmes supported by optometrists and ophthalmologists in New Zealand.

What Your Donation Helps Achieve

When you donate, your contribution directly supports people living with glaucoma in practical and meaningful ways:

  • $25 could help provide patient education resources that empower people to understand their condition and treatment.
  • $40 could help a patient access peer support by attending a regional support group, connecting them with others who understand what they’re going through.
  • $50 could help fund patient education events that give people practical tools to manage glaucoma in everyday life.
  • $100 could help fund support services for people with glaucoma, including one-on-one support through Glaucoma NZ’s SiGHTWiSE programme, helping improve patient knowledge, confidence, and treatment adherence.

Help us raise $3,000 to support Glaucoma NZ

A glaucoma diagnosis can be overwhelming. Support, reassurance, and practical guidance can make a life-changing difference. Helping people stay engaged with treatment, attend appointments, and preserve their remaining vision for as long as possible.

We’re taking part in Round the Bays Auckland 2026 to help raise essential funds for the important work of Glaucoma New Zealand.

By donating, you’re not just supporting a cause, you’re helping real people navigate a lifelong condition with dignity, knowledge, and support.
